This tool library benefits members of the Asheville Buncombe Community Garden Network.

Tool library norms and agreements:

  1. The library is to remain locked whenever someone is not present. The combination for the lock is for the 2-3 point people only, please do not share this information as it creates potential for theft.

  2. When accessing the Tool Library, please park in the designated parking spaces and walk to the Tool Library shed, rather than pulling a vehicle next to the Tool Library for loading/unloading.

  3. Members must check out tools on the My Turn interface before physically taking the tools out the library, and must check in the tools on My Turn after checking them in physically.

  4. Tools can either be checked out for three or seven days according to their value and demand. The number of days is outlined on the My Turn website. The tools that can be checked out for three days are the ladders, portable stoves, outdoor sinks, pop up tents, and food dehydrator. Larger mechanical equipment such as the chainsaws, tiller, and tractor may be utilized, but through a separate borrowing process. Please consult with the Garden Network Coordinator about using these items.

  5. If a tool is returned late, the community garden network coordinator will issue a warning. If members of a garden are late returning tools three times, the coordinator may restrict borrowing privileges or ask a garden to change their point person.

  6. Gardeners are asked to be mindful of taking good care of the tools and educating themselves in tool repair and maintenance. Items are to be returned in the same condition they were checked out. Please wash hand tools to prevent spread of disease.

  7. Because the tool library requires upkeep and maintenance please help support this community resource in any way possible, including adding to the donation jar at network meetings, attending volunteers clean up days, and donating tools to the library.

  8. If a garden’s point person/people change at some point it is the responsibility of the garden to alert the Garden Network Coordinator, and new representatives must sign an agreement prior to usage of the Tool Library.

  9. All garden representatives must sign the liability release waiver.
